Details of The Victoria Palace Theatre and the Ticket Luck value

The Victoria Palace Theatre
The Victoria Palace Theatre is located at Victoria Street, in the City of Westminster. It started operation as a small concert room located above the stables of the Royal Standard Hotel.

This hotel was a small one along with a tavern that was built in 1832. This used to be the 522 Stockbridge Terrace. The owner, John Moy, expanded the building, and in 1850 it came to be known as Moy's Music Hall. Alfred Brown bought it in 1863, redesigned it, and renamed it the Royal Standard Music Hall.

The hotel was torn down in 1886, by which time the major line terminus, Victoria Station and its latest Grosvenor Hotel, had changed the location into a major transport hub. At this point in time, the railways were building major hotel structures at their termini, and Victoria was established as one of the first. In addition to this was the integration of the electric underground system as well as the building of Victoria Street. The owner of the music hall, Thomas Dickey, had it reconstructed more ambitiously. This was in 1886 by Richard Wake, in order to retain the name Royal Standard Music Hall.

The Royal Standard, was torn down in 1910, and it was replaced by The Victoria Palace. This was done at a cost of £12,000. This structure was designed by a well known theatre architect, Frank Matcham, and it was opened on November 6, 1911. The original design carried a sliding roof that brought in cool air to the auditorium at intervals during the summer months.

The Victoria Palace Theatre carried on the musical theatre tradition with impresario Alfred Butt, in charge. In 1934, the theatre featured a patriotic play that was written by the Rev. Walter Reynolds, called Young England. While reviews of it were not encouraging, it turned into a cult hit and was played 278 times to full houses.

On returning to revue new success came too. Me and My Girl was a success in its original production, launched in 1937, and it starred Lupino Lane. In 1939, this show"s songs founded the first live broadcast of a performance by the BBC. Listeners of this show could sing along to The Lambeth Walk.

early 1945, right at the end of the war in Europe, variety was featured under the stewardship of Lupino Lane. . Headlining the bill from his radio series was Will Hay, with Charles Hawtrey and John Clark. Also, Stainless Stephen, a comical acrobat comedian duo, along with Victor Barna displayed an exhibition. They would invite audience members to participate.

Jack Hylton produced The Crazy Gang series from 1947 till 1962. He had a company of variety performers. Included in his lineup were: Flanagan and Allen, Nervo and Knox, and Naughton and Gold. The long-term Black and White Minstrel Show was featured through the 1960s, and ended in 1972. In 1982, The Little Foxes was produced, which starred Elizabeth Taylor, who made her stage debut.

Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen has been the owner of this theater since 1991. When it opened in 1911, an opulent statue of ballerina Anna Pavlova was installed above the cupola, which was later taken down for its safety reasons during the Second World War. This led to it being misplaced, but in 2006, a replica was put in its original place.
