Upon the completion of the Ice Palace, the Lightning and the Tampa Bay Storm moved in and have made this arena their home since then.
Since the facility's opening, it has changed its ownership three times. The naming rights to the Ice Palace were finally sold to the St. Petersburg Times daily newspaper that circulates throughout the Tampa Bay Area. Ever since, the facility is simply known around town as the "Forum."
With 660,000 square feet, three decks and seven separate levels, the St. Pete Times Forum's design allows for 19,758 seats for NHL games, 20,500 seats for basketball games and up to 21,500 seats for concerts and center stage events. The building is 133 feet 10 inches in height and 493 feet in diameter. It contains 3,400 tons of steel, 30,000 cubic yards of concrete and 70,000 square feet of glass. There are eighty luxury suites, including 28 on the lower level and 52 on the upper level. The arena also comprises of twenty ticket windows and more than 20 concession stands. The St Pete Times Forum has all the elements that help the facility to serve as a great venue to enjoy a show, concert, or a game.
The facility has played host to many prominent and famous events so far and has already made plans for the future to continue with it. In 2012, the St. Pete Times Forum will play host to the NCAA Hockey Frozen Four championship finals.
