San Jose State University is considered to be the oldest educational institution in the West Coast of United States. This University was founded in 1862 by the California Legislature and it was opened as California State Normal School. The University has changed a good many names over the years since its establishment like Minn's Evening Normal School, State Normal School, California State Colleges, San Jose State College and State Teachers College at San Jose. The logo of the San Jose University says 'Powering Silicon Valley'. The university is located in San Jose, California and currently has an enrollment of over 30,000 students studying to make their futures better with masters and bachelors degrees. The students comprise of people all over the world. The University has a very study friendly and activity environment and without any discrimination. The university is affiliated with California State University System and Western Athletic Conference and Jon Whitmore is the president of the University.

The building of the University is a master piece and the main campus has a total of 55 buildings. South Campus, Tower Hall, campus Village, James F. Boccardo Business education Center, SJSU Police department are some of the notable buildings of the University. A virtual campus in Second Life, Nuclear Science Facility, SJSU Aquatic Center, Student Union and the Spartan Bookstore are the other on-campus facilities provided by the University and SJSU Simpkins International House, Aviation and Technology Department, Art and Metal Foundry and University Club are some off-campus facilities. The faculty of the university is highly qualified with almost 1600 faculty members.

San Jose State University team is also an achiever in the sports field and has taken part in games and sports ever since the formation of the campus. The sports team of the SJSU is known as Spartans. The games played on the campus include track and field, golf, boxing, soccer, baseball, football, women's gymnastics and many more. All the events of the University are held at the Event Center Arena which is located at 290 South 7th street San Jose. The arena has a seating capacity for more than 4,000 people for basketball games and more than 6,000 people for concerts. This year also a lot of events are going to be held at the University. Most prominent are the football games in which Spartans will play against Southern California, Utah, Stanford, Cal Poly, Idaho, Fresno State and many others. The University conducts all kinds of co-curricular activities on the campus and students are kept engaged in healthy activities.

In the month of July, the pop sensation, Demi Lovato will perform at the San Jose State. Other events of July includes La Kalle Explosion IV and George Lopez. August will bring performances of Heaven and Hell. Super Band will perform at the Event Center Arena in the month of September.
