The good news is that the airport is just ten minutes from the downtown. If coming in by way of Amtrak, San Diego's Santa Fe Depot is also within walking distance of some of the very best downtown hotels.
San Diego used to be a sleepy old town. Cortez Hill was the only center of entertainment emerging in the 1920s that combined commercial and residential living. However, after the variety of projects dedicated to the revitalization of downtown in the 1960s, other entertainment venues opened up.
Besides a perfect weather, San Diego today offers never ending beaches, fine dining, best shopping, and sizzling nightlife - a recipe for a perfect vacation! For locals and visitors both, the vibrant cultural scene is the biggest attraction.
One of the best and the most popular outdoor entertainment venue in San Diego is the State Open Air Theatre. It is part of Performing Arts Plaza at San Diego State University. Built in 1934, it is one of the oldest places and has hosted dazzling mix of entertainers like the Smashing Pumpkins, Coldplay, Gipsy Kings, Tool, etc.
Both young students and old folks enjoy coming to this place especially for music concerts as watching and listening to favorite performers under the starry night is one of a kind experience. Besides concerts, it also hosts high school productions, graduation ceremonies and Easter services.
The Open Air Theater"s acoustics are always top notch and because of its shape (amphitheatre) the sound carries well. The seating capacity is up to 4600 and offers unobstructed sight lines from almost anywhere due to its steep design.
There is also an extra standing area at the back for two hundred or so more guests especially for those who want to have fun dancing. The surrounding area of the theater is offers grassy parks and benches on its three sides so there is plenty of opportunity for picnicking and eavesdropping.
In fact that had become so popular that at an event, wandering vendors made lots of money selling T-shirts and munchies to outsiders.
Sometimes it also happened that fans sitting on the benches nearest the gate were invited in to be part of an encore.
Although there is no extravagant concession thing but beer and wine is definitely served at shows which are age-appropriate. This place is splendid and people are sure to have loads of fun attending an event here.
