Details of Princess Of Wales Theatre and the Ticket Luck value
Toronto’s Entertainment District is inviting the residents to a grand facility located in the heart of the downtown area, the Princess of Wales Theatre. The performing arts center was built in 1993, honoring the late Princess Diana. It is the very first venue to hold a “first-class Playhouse” status. The facility has been offering top class environment and services to the visitors for twenty years now. It has not only staged some of the most popular musicals, the facility also invites orchestral organizations to perform as well.
Some of the musicals that have been performed here include The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Hairspray, the Phantom of the Opera, Oliver! and The Sound of Music, among others. This time the plays that have been announced are “Anything Goes”, “The Book of Mormon” and “Les Miserables”. The fans now have the opportunity to enjoy a musical of their choice by buying Princess of Wales Theatre tickets.
Designed and built by David and Ed Mirvish, founders of the Mirvish Productions, the theatre was constructed with the aim of staging some of the longest-running musicals. Upon completion the theatre became the very first privately financed and owned facility in North America, since the construction of the Royal Alexandra in 1907. The Mirvish Productions are also the proud owners of the Royal Alexandra, a sister theatre located a block away from this fabulous venue. This theatre was also named after a former Princess of Wales; Princess Alexandra.
As the construction of the theatre began, David Mirvish decided to commission murals by the abstract painter and impressionist sculptor, Frank Stella. The building currently boasts ten thousand square feet of paintings that cover the ceiling dome of the auditorium, the walls of the lobbies and lounges and the proscenium arches. The venue is said to hold one of the largest mural collections of the modern era.
The four story building has a theatre that consists of three seating levels, a balcony, the dress circle and the orchestra. The design of the building has both contemporary and traditional elements, while the main theatre area is inspired from traditional English nineteenth century theatres. The Mirvish Company hired some of the best architects and interior designers to make sure the facility was one of a kind. With the help of the Governor-General Award recipient architect, Peter Smith and award winning interior firm, Yabu-Pushelberg, David and Ed were able to create a truly remarkable arena.
The debut performance at the venue was the musical Miss Saigon that premiered in May, 1993. The theatre plans to host some of the most popular musicals this season as well for theatrical enthusiasts to enjoy. If you have a taste for musicals, then buy Princess of Wales Theatre tickets and be a part of another stellar season.
