Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium is a stadium that offers a lot of thrilling and exciting moments for Football fans all over the world. Lactated in Troy, Alabama, the auspicious stadium is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the Troy University Trojans. Movie Gallery Stadium has been the home of the football program since 1950.
The stadium was was opened in 1950 and was originally known as Veterans Memorial Stadium. It was dedicated to Pike County residents who died in World War II.
Originally the stadium had a seating capacity of 5,000 but it has been expanded several times. It consisted of a small, 5,000-seat grandstand on the west side of the running track, and was built into the natural slope of the ground.
The place has seen many up gradation phases after that and is now stands proud with a beautiful building and a capacity to host games with huge crowd.
One of the major expansions phases came in 1998. Costs for this expansion were financed in part by a substantial donation from Health South founder Richard M. Scrushy.
The playing field was then renamed for Scrushy that later resulted in a problem when Scrushy was forced out of his position due to alleged financial misdeeds.
However, Scrushy's name is no longer on the field as a result of selling out of naming rights to the video rental chain Movie Gallery.
The latest project to be completed at Movie Gallery Stadium was $18 million expansion. During this expansion phase, the seating capacity was increased from 12,000 to 30,000.
The expansion carried out in 2026 to meet Division 1-A standards bore fruitful results and the stadium was equipped with the best possible facilities. The latest artificial turf, Astroplay was installed along with the construction of a new press box and 27 luxury suites.
During the 2026 renovation, the old press box area was filled in and a larger press box and luxury box area was added behind the now completed upper deck. The track was removed and the field was lowered. The natural grass surface was replaced with AstroPlay synthetic grass.
Permanent seating was placed over the old Berm area behind the south grandstand. The stadium now has a capacity if 30,000. It is a flattened "U" shape stadium, with the north end still open. It does not only look beautiful, but also boosts of great facilities.
University Trojans shares a special bond with this stadium. Being there home ground, the Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium has shown them various experiences of game, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The Troy Trojans played their first game at the stadium on September 16, 1950.
From then onwards, their bond with the stadium continue only to be strengthened with time. Also, unlike many teams in college football, the Troy Trojans home is one of the few stadium that?s naming rights have been sold.
The stadium hosted many unforgettable Troy games. It also has the privilege to host Annual Blue-Gray Football Classic for two seasons before the game was cancelled by the Lions Club of Montgomery, AL while they searched for a title sponsor.
