The Merriam Theater is located on the Avenue of the Arts at 250 S. Broad Street in Philadelphia.It has played an integral and entertaining role in the city's cultural life. The theater was taken over by the Pennsylvania Musical Academy, now the University of the Arts in 1972. The stage of this marvelous venue has been graced by some of the world's most famous stars including Al Jolson, John Barrymore, Helen Hayes, Katherine Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, Sammy Davis Jr., Angela Lansbury and Mickey Rooney, just to name a few. The Merriam now hosts a full schedule of productions from local, University and regional companies.
