Details of Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox and the Ticket Luck value

Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox
In November 17, 2007, the restored Fox Theater reopens as the Martin Woldson Theater, the Ireland’s Northwest newest performing arts facility. People saw the 1931 Art Deco-inspired Fox Theater in downtown Spokane showing off its gleaming new face in a concert featuring the Spokane Symphony and opera star Frederica Von Stade.

In 2000, this Spokane, Washington, theater was saved from demolition and a $31 million capital campaign was launched to restore the building. It was given a new name in honor of the father of major donor Myrtle Woldson.

The Martin Woldson Theater is a permanent home of the Spokane Symphony. Rich in an art deco motif, the 1600-seat theater is located in the heart of downtown’s Davenport Arts District.

The site is noted for unforgettable thousands of experiences since its inception in 1931. After much anticipation, the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox opened its doors on November 17, 2007. Washington Governor Christine Gregoire presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the bright Art Deco lobby.

Patrons who had purchased the most expensive tickets had dinner at the nearby Davenport Hotel. Of the most notable was the attraction when they walked a red carpet for nearly two blocks to the theater entrance.

When the Martin Woldson Theater opened its doors, artists from across the country had enjoyed one of the finest performance halls in the region. The Theater celebrated its grand reopening with performancs by Frederica von Stade, the Spokane Symphony, Tony Bennett, Thomas Hampson and many more.

Tuxedos and gowns were much seen as the sold-out concert crowd filed in. Prior to this day, the symphony musicians had only rehearsed in their new multimillion-dollar home. On the reopening day, they heard the meticulously designed new acoustic properties performing with a full audience.

The first warm chords of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture filled the theater, giving birth to the Fox. Later in the concert, music director Eckart Preu turned to the audience and said that every musician seeks the best instrument and this building is their Stradivarius.

The grand opening celebrations continued over the next few days. People celebrated a free Community Showcase Day on November 18, 2007, attended a Tony Bennett concert on November 19, 2007, and enjoyed a jazz-blues concert with the Spokane Jazz Orchestra on November 20, 2007.

Today’s Martin Woldson Theatre traces its history in September, 1931 when searchlights roamed the sky and the streets were jammed with 30,000 people. Spokane’s Golden Jubilee and the grand opening of the Theater were being celebrated.

People saw celebrities and stars greeting them from the roof of the Theatre before watching the world premiere of Merely Mary Ann on the big screen. The theatre was built during the dark days of the Depression by Fox Westcoast Theaters. With the seating capacity of 2300, it was the largest theater in Spokane.

The Venue was designed in the exuberant and modernistic Art Deco style by architect Robert Reamer and was equipped with a full-height stage house, orchestra pit, and dressing rooms. Accommodating a range of movies and live performances, the

Theater also featured the most advanced movie technology of the day… It was the first air-conditioned building in Spokane. The Theater is constructed of concrete, flat surfaces, employs a sleek modernity, and lacks ornamentation. Giving an overall graceful simple look, it was often regarded as ‘the last word in beauty and efficiency.

From 1968-1974, the Spokane Symphony performed in the Theater as their principal venue. With all its attractions and entertainment, it soon became a ‘Place to Go’ and endured the same quality and visitors for many years.

By the 1970s, audiences began to move to the suburban movie theaters. It landed the Theatre into its dark period i.e. a period of decline as the balcony was divided into two small theaters, and the Theater became a triplex in 1975.

Entering a period of budget and second-run movies for the next twenty-five years was the worst. By 2000, the Theater was slated for demolition to make way for a parking lot.

Recognizing an incredible opportunity in the Theatre, the Spokane Symphony launched a campaign to save their beloved Venue and in a short span of time, the money was raised to purchase it.

Today, it is listed on the following registers: National Register of Historic Places, the Spokane Register, and the Washington Heritage Register. The Spokand Symphony calls Martin Woldson its home.

In addition to showcasing striking symphony, Martin Woldson features many other music and theater performances.
