In 1930s, Vaudeville began to fade and the era of talking pictures emerged. With the advent of motion pictures, the Majestic Theatre evolved into one of the United States" most illustrious movie houses.
It began featuring movie premieres and their stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck and John Wayne. People thoroughly enjoyed the Big Bands featured Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington that contributed notably to keep the tradition of live entertainment at the Majestic. Later in the early "70s, the Majestic Theater went "Dark" after the final showing of the film, "Live and Let Die".
The year 1976 saw the owner of the Majestic Theatre, Hobilitzelle Foundation, presenting the Majestic Theatre to the City of Dallas.
After undergoing renovation, including acoustics, seating, lighting and stage, the theater re-opened in January 1983, as an elegant center for the performing arts.
The year also saw the Majestic Theatre marking its way to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, this masterfully restored, five-story Renaissance Revival performance venue plays host to various productions. Some of them are the Majestic Broadway Series and world-renowned Dallas Black Dance Theater.
The 1704-seat Majestic Theater provides a variety of opportunities for presentations for musical productions, dramatic plays, national pageants, dance and concerts.
It also has a grand theatrical setting for dinner on stage. This is a great venue for a fun night out in Dallas.
