The Las Vegas Speedway opened at Sunrise Manor, Nevada in 1996.Indy Racing League inaugurated this 1.5-mile super speedway. This memorable race was won by Richie Hearn making him the first ever champion of this Speedway. The first NASCAR Sprint Cup came here in 1998, It was then known as Winston Cup. The inaugural event of the cup was won by Mark Martin ousting others out. The track also hosted the Winston No Bull 5 for four years where auto-racers competed for one million.n dollars cash reward. This was won by Jeff Burton for 1999 followed by Jeff Gordon in 2001.

In 2006, the track underwent a major revamping resulting into exceptionally increased speed incorporating progressive banking. The restricting was intended to increase side by side racing adding more excitement and zing to the events. Many racers set records in Sprint Cup Series for higher speeds. Kurt Busch covered the qualifying for Nascar Sprint Cup Series in 28. 6 seconds and covered the race in 3hrs and 34 minutes. The new restructuring also included a special fan zone called Neon Garage. The area is for the greatest racing fans having full access to the drivers and teams. This is the home of Winner's Circle. The speedway was moved closer to the Grand Stands for closer life like experience.

In 2006, Stock Car Racing was also brought back to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kurt Busch was the first one to test the track in his Miller Lite Penske Dodge. Jeff Burton was the first one to win Nationwide Series Race on this surface in his Monte Carlo SS.
