Located in Downtown Tampa, at the Channelside District, the arena is named St. Pete Times Forum or the Forum as locals usually call it.
The St. Pete Times Forum in a dynamic venue that presents the best in sports and best in entertainment throughout the year. It hosts NHL and AFL games, wrestling, rodeos, tennis, figure skating, concerts, ice shows, circuses, family fairs and other indoor events. Its permanent tenants are Tampa Bay Lightning of NHL and Tampa Bay Storm of AFL.
The Forum was opened on October 20, 1996 with a Lightning VS Rangers games. The venue was constructed as a replacement of Tropicana Field. Completed at a cost of $139 million, the magnificent arena was designed by architect Ellerbe Becket. The arena was previously called Ice Palace before the naming rights were sold to a popular daily from Tampa Bay area, St. Petersburg Times in 2002.
Today, the St. Pete Times Forum is known for its futuristic design, innovative technology and superb patron services. It is one of the finest facilities in North America in terms of in-house amenities and seating configuration. The multi-purpose arena can host around 19,758 patrons for hockey and 20,500 for basketball games. The seating capacity reaches 21,500 or more for concerts and other entertainment shows.
The forum consists of 5 levels; the ground level, event level, 100 level, 200 level and 300 level. It houses 80 luxury suites, 20 ticket windows, 22 concession stands, 4 meeting rooms, restrooms and ample parking space. The venue also has anticipated events like SEC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament and NCAA's Frozen Four in its calendar.
