Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) or Duluth Arena Auditorium is located on 5th Avenue West on the waterfront in the third largest city of Minnesota; Duluth which is also a port city linked via Great Lakes and Erie Canal 3,700 km away to Atlantic Ocean.
DECC is situated near the major and rare land mark of the city the Aerial Lift Bridge one of the two bridges of its kind ever constructed in United States.
To reach DECC from Radisson one needs to take 5th Avenue West, from Wisconsin take 53 West to North exit 256B and from Minneapolis take 35 West north to Duluth.
Duluth Arena Auditorium was opened to public in 1966 with the seating capacity of 5,333 occupants. The construction cost of this 190 X 80 foot hockey rink arena was $ 6.5 million including six locker rooms. Its tenants are Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
The rink can be converted and DECC Arena can host concerts, dinners, conventions and shows. DECC hosted NCAA men"s hockey championship in 1968 and 1981, and same platform was used as a host during 2003 and 2008 Women"s NCAA.
The Arena is separated from the 2,400 seat Auditorium through a spacious lobby where tickets are usually sold. The Auditorium plays host to concerts, symphonies, plays, operas, high school and college graduations and a variety of other activities. The Auditorium is loaded with the technical facilities.
The sound system is very good with House Clustered speakers. There are Electric Borders and Orchestra Shells all over the stage having all dimensions from smoke pocket.
There is an adjustable Orchestra pit 14 feet below stage level moved by hydraulic lift. The backstage facility includes a 9 feet high and 12 feet wide loading door, a wardrobe with washer and hookups facility, 1 Star and 4 small dressing rooms, 2 chorus rooms and storage and rehearsals areas.
There is a facility of sonic ear hearing impaired system and a dressing room page system is also available. One can enjoy a Broadway Show, a Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra concert, or a performance by Duluth's own Minnesota Ballet in the luxury of the Auditorium, or catch a concert in the Arena. No matter what the setting, the DECC offers Duluth's finest entertainment.
DECC being a famous and major entertainment house of the city had many additions ever since it opened. In the mid 1990s a $30 million Convention center was added to it which became the site of numerous social, business and entertainment events.
The center features the 26,000 sq ft. Lake Superior Ballroom, the 12,000 sq ft. Harborside Ballroom, and 25 Meeting Rooms. An OMNIMAX Theatre was opened in the spring of 1996 and a 10-screen Movie theater complex was added in 2005.
Dan Russell is the current director of DECC. And with its progressive mode DECC is excited and vigorous about its expansion project with the budget of $ 38 million. The expansion includes a new hockey arena and parking ramp that can provide more space for conventions and concerts.
