The concert season begins in April and continues through October. The amphitheatre is home to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra where they perform classical music concerts. The amphitheatre also hosts a variety of contemporary concerts as well.

Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Midtown, is a domicile to the Classic Chastain and Country Chastain Concert Series as well as the Budweiser/Coca-Cola Concert Series.

It all began in June 1944 when Troy Chastain, Atlanta supervisor of public buildings, unveiled a new amphitheater in North Fulton Park. He organized concerts in the amphitheatre in an effort to attract the masses to the area and spur residential development.

However his efforts proved to be fruitless because of sparse turnouts at the first few concerts. In 1946, Troy Chastain died and the Park was renamed Chastain Memorial Park as a tribute to his efforts. In 1952, the Mayor of Atlanta, William B. Hartsfield, re-embarked on Chastain"s course and sponsored free concerts at the venue beginning with a performance by Albert Coleman"s Atlanta Pops Orchestra.

The turnout was beyond anyone"s wildest imaginations with a crowd of 9000. Consequently, Mayor Hartsfield was successful in luring a local opera producer to offer operettas and musical comedies at Chastain. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra inaugurated their first season at Chastain Park.

In 1991, the prestige of the ASO magnetized superstars including Sinatra, Ray Charles, Steve Winwood, Jay Leno, Bonnie Raitt, Harry Connick, the Moody Blues, and Don Henley. Dylan, Santana, Willie, Johnny, Aretha, Emmylou, and Peter, Paul and Mary all appeared at the park in 1993.

The theatre was unanimously voted the venue of choice in 1997 by Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Creative Loafing, and the Atlanta Business Chronicle. As a result, the park set new records of attendance in 1998. The rise of the park continued over the years.

The park attracted huge names. The "Down from the Mountain" tour (music from the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou) was organized in 2001.Norah Jones, the jazz-pop diva held her concert at the park in 2004 following which the park underwent a $ 2.3 million renovation that increased its luster.
