The play Romeo and Juliet proved to be an exceptional triumph. Booth presented other successful productions such as Hamlet, Othello, and Cardinal Richelieu but couldn"t make his theater into a viable business enterprise.
Only five years after the triumphant opening of Romeo and Juliet, Booth lost the theatre to bankruptcy. The theatre was later owned by several different managers, such as the theatrical impresarios Augustin Daly, Tomasso Salvini and Dion Boucicault.
The present Booth Theatre is located at 222 West 45th Street in midtown-Manhattan, New York City. Opened on October 16, 1913, the Booth Theater was named in honor of famed 19th-century American actor Edwin Booth.
With a seating capacity of800, the Venue provides an intimate setting for dramatic and comedy plays. The Venue was opened with Arnold Bennett"s play The Great Adventure. In addition to presenting an array of events, the Booth Theater has also hosted a fictitious charity performance of War of the Roses.
In the 1950s and 1960s, a vast array of stars visited the theatre while in 1980s and 1990s, a number of small-scale musicals were presented which achieved critical and commercial success.
