With stars like The Grateful Dead who did 2 legendary shows here as well as Bob Marley who did his last live concert here on September 23, 1980 Stanley Theater made its mark in the entertainment world. The Controversy Tour of Prince was also started at the Stanley in 1981. Billboard honored The Stanley Theater by naming it as the Number One Auditorium in the U.S. to make this place Benedum Center, on 25th September, 1987 more than $43 million were invested to its restoration. With its news building and several extensions and supports to the stage the place was stylishly designed. With its signature piece the main chandelier which weighs 4,700 pounds, and has 20 feet height and 12 feet width the place has honored the late H.J. Heinz II.
