AT T Park
AT&T Park broke ground on December 11, 1997 after the construction cost of $357 Million, the ball park opened its door for viewers on March 31, 2000.
Since the completion of Dodger Stadium in 1962, AT&T Park was the only ball park that was constructed with public funding.
When the park opened it had the seating capacity of 40,800; however with the passage of time, the capacity has increased gradually to 41,503 presently.
When the park was opened, the naming rights of the park were bought by San Francisco"s Bay Area telephone company, Pacific Bell, which bought the naming rights for $50 Million, after which the park was named to Pacific Bell Park.
The park remained under the same name till 2003, and after which, the parent company of Pacific Bell, SBC Communication, made an agreement with the San Francisco Giants, to change the name of the park to SBC Park on January 1, 2004. However the new name for the park wasn"t warmly welcomed by the fans.
Almost a year later on November 18, 2005, SBC Communications Merged with AT&T and became AT&T Inc. After the merger, the park was named for the third time and this time it was AT&T Park.
Once again the fans weren"t happy with the new name of the park, which is why among fans it is still referred to as "Pac Bell Park". Park is, sometimes, also known simply as "The Bell" and some fans, due to its name changes; refer to it as "The Phone Booth" and "Telephone Park".
The park was opened by China Basin Ballpark Corp. to provide San Francisco Giants, a Major League Baseball team, with a home ground.
Since the park was built entirely without public funding, it received $10 million tax abatement from the city apart from upgrades to local infrastructure costing around $80 Million.
Giants pay $1.2 Million, annually, to San Francisco Port Commission, as a rent for the site of the ball park and they have also signed a 66 year lease for the site.
AT&T Park is known for hosting some of the most remarkable sporting events in the history including Dodgers three match against Giants in 2000, in which they defeated Giants.
Some of the historic moments from the history of park also includes Giants very own Barry Bond"s 500th career home run, which he hit on April 17, 2001. Also in the October of the same year, he hit home runs number 71, 72, and 73 to close the season and also set the single season home run record.
The following year Bond hit his 600th career home at the park on August 9, 2002. The count of his career home run reached 700 on September 17, 2004 at the park. Bond also broke Babe Ruth"s and Hank Aaron"s record after hitting his 756th home run on August 7, 2007.
