Will Young
Pop Idol Will Young was born in Berkshire, England on January 20, 1979. Young has two siblings, which are his fraternal twin Rupert and his elder sister Emma.
He attained his preparatory education at the Horris Hill Preparatory School, and for higher education he turned his head towards Wellington College. After earning 2:2 honours degree from the University of Exeter, he then went to the Arts Educational School on scholarship. There he opted for a course in musical theatre.
Pop Idol was the medium that rose Youngs fame in the music industry. The first season of Pop Idol was aired on October 5, 2001, and by the end of its first season Will young came out to be the winner of the contest and so his journey in the music industry took a successful start.
The first double A-side single that Young released was written by Chris Braide and Cathy Dennis. The single also featured two of the three songs that he sang on the grand finale of Pop Idol, which were Evergreen and Anything is Possible.
The single received a warm welcome and was a commercial success. As soon as it was released, it became fastest selling debut single in UK and was seen toping many charts in UK.
After earning enough success from his debut single, Young headed back to studio to record his debut album titled From Now On that was released on October 14, 2002. Apart from featuring Evergreen / Anything is possible, some other singles from the album included Light my Fire, Dont Let Me Down / You and I and The Long Winding Road / Suspicious Minds.
From Now On was a major success just like Youngs debut single, as it debut at #1 spot on UK Album Chart and sold 187,350 copies in the first week of its release. The album also led Young to his very first award that he won at the 2003 BRIT Awards for the Best Breakthrough Artist.
Young added another chapter to his success story as he released his second studio album titled Fridays Child on December 1, 2003 on Sony BMG records. The album was positively welcomed both by the critics and the fans, and just like his previous album, it peaked the UK Albums Chart at the #1 spot.
After selling more than 1.8 Million copies globally, Fridays Child received a certified 5x Platinum status in UK. Leave Right Now was the first single that was released from the album on November 24, 2003. The song was written by Eg White while it was produced by Stephen Lipson.
The single sold 117,700 in its first week of release, and peaked at #1 spot on UK Singles Chart. Young also received an Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and lyrically in 2004 for Leave Right Now. The other two singles from the album were Your Game and Fridays Child. The former one peaked at #3 spot while the latter one peaked at #4 spot on UK Singles Chart.
Young broke the tradition of debuting his studio albums at #1 spot on UK Albums Chart on November 21, 2005 when he released his third studio album titled Keep On. The album peaked at #2 spot on UK Album Chart while selling 107,318 copies in its first week of release.
The album became his second best selling album as it did not reach the #1 spot like the previous ones. Switch it on was the first single from this album that was released on November 14, 2005.
The single peaked at #5 spot on UK Singles chart. Other two singles from the album were All Time Love and Who Am I. All Time Love peaked at #3 spot making it his highest ranking earning single from his album. The latter one took the #11 spot on UK Singles Chart.
On September 22, 2008 Young released the first single from his 4th Studio album Let It Go. The single was titled Changes and peaked at #10 Spot on UK Singles Chart. The song is co written by Young him self along with Eg White.
Let It Go was released on September 29, 2008 by RCA Records. The album peaked at #2 spot on UK Album Chart and received certified Gold Status after selling well over 120,000 copies.
The second single from this album is entitled Grace and is scheduled to be released on December 1, 2008 in UK. Young performed it on November 1, 2008 for the first time on The X Factor.
