He was born in Arezzo however he grew up in Rome. By the time he was just four years old he started singing. When he was just nine years old, by mere chance he heard someone singing "Ave Maria" to which he sang his own rendition which was heard by someone who persuaded him to give an audition for the prestigious Sistine Chapel Choir. Soon enough, he was selected and included as a soloist of the Sistine Chapel Choir. At the Sistine Chapel, he availed the opportunity of studying at the known Schola Puerorum for five years.
When he was just thirteen years old, he had begun playing the Pastorello. Vittorio Grigolo was given the chance to perform the Tosca at the popular opera house in Rome. At this performance, young Grigolo shared the stage under the grand presence of Pavarotti. He became a part of the Vienna Opera Company when he was 18. Later he turned out as being the youngest performer to play at the La Scala that took place in Milan when he was 23 years old. He has performed in the performances of Faust, La traviata, The Barber of Seville and Cosi fan tutte along with various others prior to taking the role of Tony along with James Gandolfini in the West Side Story.
His solo debut album came out in 1006 and was titled as In the Hands of Love. The main genres in the album were pop and opera oriented to which he sums up as being "Popera". The album successfully reached the Top Ten of the known UK pop charts lists and went on the number 6th slot. The album comprises of renditions of "All in Love Is Fair" of Stevie Wonder, "Bedshaped" of Keane's, a remarkable duet with Katherine Jenkins in a song called "You Are My Miracle" and "Maria" from West Side Story. The same album that came out in the United States was titled as Vittorio. In this US version there is a spectacular duet of the song "You Are My Miracle" with Nicole Scherzinger, the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls.
In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The West Side Story, Vittorio Grigolo was seen acting along with Haylely Westenra. The musical was included in the esteemed UK Classic FM Chart at the number one slot. His second studio recorded album was called The Italian Tenor that was released in 2010. The album was given a rating by David Mellor who described it in Classic FM as being the best opera recordings of the year.
Grigolo has successfully won various awards. The European Commission of the EU gave him and also Romano Musumarra the celebrated European Border Breakers Award as well as a publishers, authors and record company in recognition of effectively recording the most sales in 2006 for a first-time album. Grigolo also received the Capri Exploit Music Award from The Capri/Hollywood Film Festival in an award ceremony on the 1st of January in 2008. At the award function he also performed a live tribute to the legendary Bernstein.
