Details of Thirteen and the Ticket Luck value

Thirteen
Thirteen is a Center Theater Group presentation of a musical with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish. This world premiere musical is a giddy tribute to Brown's own nostalgia about an age where being popular is much essential to one's own well being and happiness. The story of Todd Graff-directed and Michele Lynch-choreographed Thirteen, 13, begins with the central figure, Evan.Being transplanted to Indiana from New York City when his parents divorce, Evan realizes that he's at a fork in the road. If Evan gets the 'Cool Kids' to attend, his status will be cemented for the rest of the year. This also means excluding his best friend nerd Patrice, who has been there for him through thick and thin.

Evan has to grapple with becoming a man, while simultaneously deciding how to balance his need to 'fit in' with staying true to himself.Gotham transplant Evan is the Jewish child of divorce facing the prospect of holding a friendless bar mitzvah. Evan confides in us as he walks a tightrope between the treacherous allure of the cool kids and the warmth of his 'weirdo' pals.He is shown shuffling through the halls on crutches, determined to be seen as just another kid. In Mann's lovely portrayal, Archie is no idealized sufferer instead he's downright annoying: part Urkel, part Napoleon Dynamite, altogether needy. Not above using a little blackmail to wangle a date with the school princess Emma Degerstedt, Archie opens his heart to her in a letter sung as 'My Name Is Archi'. Princess is also dying.

With a delicate shading of grief, a fact is communicated without bathos that nonetheless invests the 'we're all pals'. The musical also features a teenage musical group which is positioned on a raised platform in the background. Members of the band are smartly costumed to mirror the actions going on in the show. This tongue in cheek sense of humor has helped to avoid the saccharine quality. Emma Degerstedt should also be commended for making 'Ms. Popular' Kendra seems nice. This tough feat gives the jealousy Kendra inspires in everyone around her. Lucy is another performer with powerful pipes and charisma to boot. The only lead having a little trouble finding his stage legs seems to be J.D. Phillips.

Evan fortunately achieves earnestness with ease and miraculously avoids becoming nasty even as he abandons his friends for the cool kids. Rounding out the core trio of the show, Patrice and Archie are also perfect. This performance and the pitch perfect delivery of dry remarks such as 'You don't get any points for being different at Dan Quayle Junior High' are an indication Ashley will only grow as a professional actor. The staging and choreography are perfect showing teens bouncing off the floor with acrobatics and energy that only real thirteen year olds can capture.Come and experience the atmosphere filled with vitality and charisma.

The costuming fits the show to a tee. The ensemble as a whole is remarkably strong, lighting up the stage during group numbers. In the ensemble, everyone has only puppy love and popularity on their minds. Everything's awesome or gross but what comes out as the biggest concerns are who'll sit next to whom in the cafeteria or how to get into an R-rated movie. If '13' leaves out the harsher realities of adolescence, the realities it does confront are resonant. The songs remain true to the kids' argot and emotional core while granting the musical sound that makes us tap your toes and cheer.
