During the last decade of his life, Giacomo began writing a memoir which later became known as the 'Histoire de ma vie (Story of My Life)'. This autobiography is often cited as 'one of the most authentic sources of norms and customs of social life in Europe' during the eighteenth century. He was also highly popular for his association and friendships with cardinals, popes, royalty as well as luminaries such as Mozart, Goethe and Voltaire.
