American Indoor Football Association brings back the action of Indoor football alive with a remarkable season this year. The Richmond Raiders are a professional indoor football that became a part of the American Indoor Football Association in the 2010 season. In the winters of 2010 Richmond Raiders moved to the Southern Indoor Football League as a result of the merger between the SIFL and the Eastern division of the AIFA. The Richmond Raiders came to the 2011 season as the member of the professional Indoor Football League and won their first division title the same year.
Richmond Raiders are based in the city of Richmond, Virginia. The Richmond Coliseum is the home ground of the Riders and they play all their home games in their official colors, silver, black, blue and white. The team mascot Risky the Horse along with the Lady Raiders are the most aggressive support for the team on ground and will continue to remain a permanent part of all Richmond Raiders. James Fuller is the head Coach of the team. The Richmond Raiders is a Virginia limited liability corporation and is owned by John Morris, Mike, Elizabeth and Michael Fraizer. The owners are renowned businessperson of the Richmond area with Elizabeth serving as the prime representative of team ownership.
The city of Richmond tried twice before the Raiders could come and earn the position of Richmond representative in the professional indoor football team. In the prior attempts to become a formal representative the team was known as Richmond Speed (2000-2003) and the Richmond Bandits (2005-2006). Once they entered the pro-circle of indoor football the Richmond Raiders played their first game in 2010. This AIFA Kickoff Classic was an exhibition fixture that was played against the AIFA All-Stars at the Richmond Coliseum. The same year the team earned a nickname by public choice.
Mike Siani came to the Richmond Raiders as the head coach initially. He was replaced by Charles Gunning in 2010; this replacement proved rather insignificant for the team’s training. Hence Chris Simpson was brought in as the head coach of the team which was bound to make big on the main stage that season. For the 2011 season, Simpson prepared the team thoroughly via his experience with a dysfunctional Baltimore Mariners team. Simpson abandoned the team on the opening day which meant a new head coach James Fuller. Fuller was AFL Dallas Vigilantes’ interim head coach for the 2010 season. Fuller along with Richmond Revolution’s former head coach Steve Criswell helped mould and trained them teams for the season. Chriswell as the senior consultant for the season proved fruitful when he let former Revolution players to become a part of this new team. The great duo of the Revolution QB Bryan Randall and DL Lawrence Lewis became a part of the Richmond Raiders the same year. No wonder, the divisional title went nowhere…
The seasonal tack of the Richmond Raiders that the team’s inaugural season comprised of a 6-8-0 record with a fifth position in the Eastern Indoor Football league. Richmond Raiders as a part of the SIFL contested the 2011 season and winded up with a 6-6-0 record and a first position in the EC Mid-Atlantic Division. Richmond Raiders as a part of the PIFL will be playing the 2012 season. For the 2012 season the team and fans are all very excited as the roster is sturdy and experienced and more importantly the Raiders have trained extensively under an experienced coach and guidance. The team has showcased commendable game play and team play since it stepped into the professional ground.
