An American television personality and actor, Regis Philbin is best known for his roles as a game show host, talk show host, and presenter at various events. Regis holds the Guinness World Record for the most time spent in front of a television camera. He is often referred to as the hardest working man in show business. Regis' trademarks include his New York Bronx accent, excited manner, wit and irreverent ad-libs. He gained critical acclaim for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Million Dollar Password. His popularity further grew when he hosted the first season of America's Got Talent.

Regis Philbin broke into show-business, when he took over hosting the late night show called 'Westinghouse Tonight Show' in 1964. But, the show lasted a few weeks and closed due to dismal ratings. Regis hosted his first talk show called The Regis Philbin Show on KGTV in San Diego. He had no writing staff, and began each show with the host chat segment where he would engage his audience in discussions about his life and the day's events.

It was not before 1967, when Regis Philbin gained his first national exposure as Joey Bishop's sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show. The show ran for two years. From 1975-83, Regis co-hosted a local morning talk show entitled AM Los Angeles on KABC TV. His presence brought AM Los Angeles from the bottom of the local ratings to No 1. During the early 1970s, Regis also commuted each weekend to St Louis, where he recorded Regis Philbin's Saturday Night in St Louis on KMOX-TV.

In 1981, Philbin co-hosted a national morning variety series for NBC. He also hosted 'Lifestyles with Regis Philbin' on the Lifetime television network. In 1983, Philbin rejoined Garvey on The Morning Show that was broadcast on WABC-TV. Garvey left the show and Philbin was paired with Kathie Lee Johnson. Ratings improved significantly, while the show became nationally syndicated in September 1988 as 'Live with Regis and Kathie Lee'. The success continued and the program replaced AM Los Angeles upon its cancellation in 1991.

The year 2001 saw Kelly Ripa replacing Kathie Lee, while the show was renamed Live with Regis and Kelly. Their chemistry proved successful and the show continued to enjoy high ratings. Regis has a four-year contract with Live with Regis and Kelly to remain until September 2009. In 003, he won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host, as host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. In 2004, Philbin set a Guinness World Record for Most Hours on Camera. His on-air time, however, continues to accumulate.

During the summer of 2006, Regis Philbin hosted the first season of America's Got Talent, an amateur search show on NBC. Philbin also hosted a game show called 'The Neighbors'. It was a short-lived game show and broadcast on ABC in 1975. Also on his credits is his work as field reporter for ABC in 1975. He reported for 'Almost Anything Goes' which was an American adaptation of the British game show, It's a Knockout.
