Demetri Martin was born on the 25^th of May in New York City. He is not only an outstanding comedian, but an actor as well. After graduating from Yale University in the year 1995, Martin wrote for the New York University School of Law. A year before the end of his studies, he dropped out despite objections from his parents, to make it as a stand-up comedian.
 
2001 was the breakthrough year for Martin as he got a position in the show called Premium Blend, which was a program for young comedians on Comedy Central. After that, he got his own show called If I... which won him the Edinburgh Comedy Award in the year 2003 in Scotland. That same year, the famous talk show host, Conan O'Brien signed him up to a contract. Martin then worked as a writer for O'Brien's famous show called Late Night Show with Conan O'Brien. In the year 2008, he managed to get his own show on Comedy Central. It was named Important Things with Demetri Martin.

Martin also tried his hand at acting. His acting career began in the year 2002 with a small supporting role in the comedy film Analyze This 2 alongside Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro. He also made a brief appearance in the 2008 comedy Paper Heart. However, it was not until the year 2009 that he achieved his international breakthrough when he landed a role in Taking Woodstock which was directed by Ang Lee.
