Once

Once is a musical, an adaptation of the Academy Award winning movie released in 2006. Its music and lyrics are by Marketa Irglova and Geln Hansard, the duo behind the Academy Award winning songs of the movie. Its book is by Enda Walsh, which closely follows the movie as directed by John Carney. In 2011, it premiered Off-Broadway and in 2012, it premiered on Broadway. It is set for a 2013 premiere on London’s West End. A Tony Award winning musical, it has already sold thousands of Once tickets for its performances, with many more sold as each performance nears.
 
Once, a Tony Award winning musical in the Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and in six other categories, is one of Broadway’s most popular and acclaimed musicals today. It has won awards by the dozen, with some of the most Tony Awards for its Broadway production. It premiered at the Off Broadway theater, the New York Theater Workshop where it saw several performances. It was directed by John Tiffany with Steven Hoggett as the choreographer.
 
Once’s Off Broadway cast included Steve Kazee playing Guy and Cristin Milioti playing Girl.  This production won six Lucille Lortel Awards for the Outstanding Choreographer, Outstanding Director, Outstanding Scenic Design, Outstanding Sound Design, Outstanding Lighting Design and Outstanding Lead Actress. It also won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for the Best Musical.
 
In 2012, Once opened at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on February. It had the same choreographer, director and cast. It received a breathtaking eleven Tony Award nominations, of which it won an outstanding eight, including the highly coveted Tony Award for the Best musical. It also won several Drama League Awards, including the Distinguished Production of a Musical.
 
A West End premiere of Once planned at the Phoenix Theatre in 2013. The musical follows a story similar to the movie in which a busker playing guitar at a local bar meets a young Czech girl, who asks him questions on his music. The two then begin playing music together, kicking off a captivating relationship best seen live with Once tickets in hand.
 
This is a musical that has received rave reviews from the media. The New York Times calls it dimensional, vital, surprising and distinctive, praising its music.
