Adaptations:
The opera received a Tony Award-winning Broadway production by Baz Luhrmann. This had modernized supertitle translations. This opera [La boheme] was updated to 1975, according to Baz Luhrmann, was because it was "...discovered that 1957 was a very, very accurate match for the social and economic realities of Paris in the 1840s."
For playing the eight performances every week, 3 casts of Mimis and Rudolfos, and 2 Musettas and Marcellos, were rotated. This production was founded on Luhrmann's 1993 production for Opera Australia.
Well-known adaptations of this opera include:
A 1926 silent film (with a very different version of the opera). It was produced by MGM, and starred Lilian Gish as Mimi.
A 1935 British sound film called 'Mimi', which starred Gertrude Lawrence and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. This one used the Puccini score just as background music.
Sally Potter's film 'Thriller'.
Boheemielamaa (La vie de boheme), Aki Kaurismaki's film.

One episode of the "Animaniacs" has the name "La Bohemeth" which has references to this and other operas.
In Trading Places, Dan Aykroyd's character is a stereotypically snobbish. The character is booked, and the arresting officer logs the contents of his pockets: "One pair of tickets: 'La Bo Heem'", and Aykroyd corrects this with the correct pronunciation.
In "Heavenly Creatures", "Sono andati" is played by Kate Winslet.
In the film Moonstruck, the music of La boheme is prominent.
