Il Trovatore is the brainchild of Giuseppe Verdi. This amazing composer was born in an Italian village near the town of Busseto called le Roncole. He took up music at an early age and got his initial training in Busseto. At the age of twenty Verdi went on to study music theory and opera privately in Milan. He also regularly attended opera performances and also had a chance to attend gatherings of famous Italian woman of letters Clara Maffei. Verdi in his career that spans over almost six decades composed 37 operas including classic hits like Otello, Don Carlo, La Forza del destino, Un ballo in maschera, Giovanna de Guzman Rigoletto, Macbeth, Attila, Alzira, Givanna d Arco and I due Foscari. For orchestra he only wrote five compositions including Sinfonia in B flat major, Sinfonia in C minor, Adagio for Orchestra, Capriccio for Bassoon and Orchestra and Sinfonia del M. Verdi in D Major. During his music career Verdi only wrote two pieces for the piano.
Il Trovatore opera is based on the famous play titled El Trovador that was written Antonio Garcia in the year 1836. The libretto for the opera was written by Salvadore Cammarano and Giuseppe Verdi composed it in 4 acts. Cammarano died before completing the libretto, so Verdi commissioned a young gifted librettist Leone Bardare who made significant improvements to the opera under the supervision of Verdi. The main purpose of Verdi was to increase the role of Leonora who is a noble lady and one of the main characters of the play as well as the opera. Other characters include Count di Luna, Manrico, Azucena, Ines and Ruiz. The opera was staged for the first time in 1853. Since then a number of performances of Il Trovatore have taken place. It has been performed by various orchestra companies across the world such as Metropolitan Opera and Orchestra, La Scala Orchestra and Chorus, Milan, Santa Cecilia Academy Rome, Vienna State Opera and New Philharmonic Orchestra London. World renowned modern day conductors like James Levine, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta and Carlo Mari Giulini have conducted Il Trovatore.
