The Exorcist, the all-time horror classic of the 1970s is based on the novel written by William Peter Blatty. The very well-known William Friedkin is also more of a legend to horror movie fans throughout the globe for his masterpiece film adaption of The Exorcist. For the theater lovers however, there is great news as The Exorcist is now coming to live stage. Yes, The Exorcist's stage adaptation has now been written by John Pielmeier and you will be able to get hold of cheap The Exorcist tickets to watch it in arenas near you.

The Exorcist is a story that revolves around faith and supernatural suspense. In the northern part of Iraq, an aging priest called Father Merrin runs an archaeological dig where he studies ancient relics. When he discovers the statue of an ancient demon mysteriously juxtaposed together with a contemporary St. Joseph medal, a sequence of omens warns him of an imminent confrontation with some sort of powerful evil.

Meanwhile, in America, a young girl called Regan MacNeil who lives with her mother in Georgetown falls extremely sick whereby she goes through physical as well as psychological disorders and appears to be possessed by a demon. After various efforts for Regan's treatment that yield no success, her mother approaches a local priest named Father Karras. Father Karras who himself is going through a troubled phase agrees to treat Regan but initially turns down the belief that she is possessed by an actual demon. After a number of sittings with the little child who is now completely overtaken by a diabolical spirit, he approaches the bishop of the locality to gain permission to do an exorcism on Regan.

The bishop on the other hand does not see Karras qualified enough to perform this exorcism and instead appoints Father Merrin who is more experienced and has just returned to America. Father Merrin allows the doubtful Karras to help him with the exorcism rites. The very lengthy rites and tests of the exorcism take a toll on Father Merrin spiritually as well as physically and he dies whereupon the task eventually falls on Karras. When he calls the demon to inhabit him and leave the innocent child Regan, the demonic spirit seizes this chance to possess Karras and hence the priest gives away his own life to save that of Regan's.

Upon discussing The Exorcist as a stage play, John Pielmeier consulted Bill Blatty and assured him that what he wanted to do was something completely different from the novel itself, something that seemed exceptionally theatrical when presented. So Bill Blatty gave him a go-ahead for this venture and was actually quite thrilled and supportive when sent the first draft.

The second most important task was to get hold of a great director which they did, none other than the incredibly talented John Doyle. John Doyle is a Tony Award winning, world renowned director and his revivals of Sweeney Todd as well as Company have earned him much success. The music for this theatrical piece is composed by the British composer Sir John Tavener. So Pielmeier managed an excellent combination with one of the best directors and composers.

One of the things that make the stage adaption different from the book is that in the book there is a little mention of a boy child before Regan but who had passed away. Pielmeier expands on that idea more as something that is actually haunting her.

The play has nine cast members. Stage as well as screen star Brooke Sheilds is playing the role of Chris MacNeil as Regan's mother. Also, the very talented star Richard Chamberlain has taken on the role of Father Merrin. The role of Regan is played by the young actress Emily Yetter.

So don't miss this opportunity and buy cheap The Exorcist tickets right away to witness a play of horror, thrill and suspense in the theatrical performance of a new stage adaption of The Exorcist.

For the very first time, a theatrical adaptation of the scariest movie of all time, The Exorcist, is coming to you at the Geffen Playhouse located in Los Angeles. This breathtaking proudction is based on the novel of the same name on which the movie was based. Its director is Jonh Doyle, a Tony Award winner, and its adaptation was written by John Pielmeier, a famous playwright known for his work on plays such as Agnes of God. It perfectly portrays the events in the book and the movie which surround a battle between good and evil in the most chilling manner; a must see for fans of the movie through The Exorcist tickets.

The Exorcist is a production by the Geffen Playhouse which was founded by renowned theatre, TV and film visionary, Gil Cates. It was originally one of the first twelve buildings to be located in Westwood, originally built in 1929 as a clubhouse for students and alumni of the University of California in Los Angeles. It continued to serve this purpose onwards to the seventies where it was then sold to local business owners, Kristen Combs and Donald Combs. These two then went on to restore the building to its original design, creating a tile fountain, central courtyard and opening the building up to the public. It also contained a furniture store, a restaurant serving the finest Italian cuisine in town and a theatre known as the Westwood Playhouse, the precursor to the modern day Geffen Playhouse.

In 1994, the venue was then donated to the UCLA so as to remain a theater and fell under the auspices of Gilbert Cates, then the founder of the School of Theater, Film & TV at the UCLA. For some time then, he had been advocating towards establishing a world class theater and with this opportunity, began working on this, fundraising and gathering resources. Through a generous gift from David Geffen, it was named the Geffen Playhouse and it officially opened its doors to the public in 1995. The first production held at this theater was Four Dogs and a Bone by John Patrick Shanley which starred Brendan Fraser, Parker Posey, Elizabeth Perkins and Martin Short. In 1999, Randall Arney became the artistic director whereas Gilbert Cates became the producing director of the home of the play, The Exorcist.

Many years before the premiere of The Exorcist, plays such as Donald Margulies' Collected Stories and David Rambo's God's Man in Texas were produced and directed by Gilbert Cates and Randall Arney. In 2001, with seventeen million dollars through fundraising, it was upgraded into a new state of the art facility that contained complex production designs, enhanced technology and the original beauty and craftsmanship of the building as it was in the twenties. By 2005, the new venue was ready and it began hosting a number of productions. In 2009, the main stage of the venue was named the Gil Cates Theater, two years before the legendary man himself passed away.

Thus, The Exorcist's home, the Geffen Playhouse, is one of the most historic and popular places in Los Angeles as far as plays are concerned. It has been the recipient of over forty awards such as the Drama Critics Circle Award for the Best New Play, won by Jane Anderson's The Quality of Life. Many famous actors have called the Geffen Playhouse home including Debbie Allen, Annete Bening, Beau Bridges and Jason Alexander. It has been associated with Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwrights and The Exorcist's director is himself a winner of the coveted Tony Award, making this a play to be seen live through The Exorcist tickets. Indeed, the movie itself is one of the greatest ever filmed, having won ten Academy Awards.
