Cirque du Soleil, literally meaning Circus of the Sun, is a Canadian entertainment company that is famous for its touring productions. One of their touring productions is Dralion, a traditional Chinese themed show that is an endeavor to present combined elements of eastern as well as western cultural entertainment. The word Dralion consists of two parts, first part representing dragon from Chinese and eastern culture, while the last part represents Lion that carries great significance in western culture. Dralion is 12^th production by Cirque du Soleil, and unlike most of the other shows of Cirque it was directed by Guy Caron instead of Franco Dragone.

Various characters of this show include the four basic elements of life according to ancient science i.e. Fire (Yao), Water (Oceane), Earth (Gaya), Air (Azala) and others like Dralions, Clowns, L’Ame Force and Little Buddha. In this show Azala is presented in blue dress as keeper of the sun, guardian of immortality and goddess of air. Gaya is dressed up in Ochre colour, and is the goddess of Earth. The sensual goddess of water, Oceane is clad in green color while Yao, the god of fire appears in red dress. He is said to be the god of fire in both good and evil. L’Ame Force is the vocalist, and sings about harmony among the four elements of life. An invented language is used for the lyrics of what he sings. Other characters like Dralions are mythical and legendary creatures, and their dance appears inspirational from traditional Chinese dragon dance as well as Lion dance. Clowns also play an important role in this whole drama, pushing the harmony among the elements towards turbulence, thus creating a tension among the elements due to their mischiefs. Another important character is the Little Buddha, who is in fact the chosen child. Though he wants to be a normal child, but possesses the spiritual powers leading him to become eventually L’Ame Force.

The act opens with Little Buddha appearing with an hourglass in his hand, and turning it upside down so that a green fluid flows from it. The four elements of life, Azala, Oceane, Yao and Gaya enter the scene each wearing a color representing their origin, and dancing to symbolize the creation of universe. These dances later on lead to appearance of some acts that are permanent for this show, including Single Hand balancing, Juggling, performances on trampoline, hoop diving and skipping ropes among many others. The audience goes mad with excitement especially when there is ballet on light bulbs, Duo Trapeze and appearances made by dralions and spirits. There is a beautiful display of aerial dance by Azala and her male counterpart, labeled as Aerial pas de deux. Apart from these permanent acts, there are some performances that keep on rotating, including Foot juggling and aerial hoop. In the past there used to be Contortion with bowls and Clowns act named as Les Voila that have been discontinued now.

The music for this performance is a beautiful amalgamation of eastern and western music, composed by Violaine Corradi. Official soundtrack contains vocals by Erik Karol and Agnes Sohier. Beautiful music, in combination with specially designed brightly colored costumes sets the whole atmosphere on fire. There are a very few shows in the world as exciting as this, owing to the fact that this brings together a beautiful harmony between the east and the west.
