After the losses suffered, Les Echassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul broke up, but Ste-Croix's and Laliberte's hopes were still high and they organized another touring festival named La Fete Foraine that was held for the first time in July 1982. The festival turned out to be a better, although mild, financial success as compared to Les Echassiers and carried on for next few years.

1983 marked the 450th Anniversary of Quebec, as it had been that much a time since Jacques Cartier discovered Canada. That year, the government granted Laliberte with a funding of $1.5 million to organize a festival to celebrate the event.
