Carolina Ballet started its theatrical journey in March 1998 with "Gala" featuring dancers from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Kirov Ballet and Miami City Ballet. The company"s inaugural season opened in the fall of 1998 with a performance of George Balanchine"s Square Dance at Cary"s Regency Park. The company attracted the acclaim of critics and audiences alike from the very first season.

During second season, the company did thirty performances with total 26 dancers in four of North Carolina locations - Raleigh, Durham, Winston-Salem and Greenville. The next few seasons witnessed considerable success for Carolina Ballet as it continued to perform exciting and innovative ballets.

It has made wonders by its great productions and had moved from being a regional touring company to a national and international touring company. The company moved into a new studio in Raleigh in its fourth season and still continues to grow as the most sought after theatre outlet in Carolina.

Balanchine-By George!
A tribute to the original creator of Nutcracker and a Father of American Ballet, Carolina Ballet"s Balanchine-By George! will take you to the times of the great theatrical legend George Balanchine. It has been a while since Carolina Ballet is following a tradition of paying tribute to Balanchine every season. However, the magic of his great work never seems to be vanished.

Balanchine's natural curiosity and creativity led him to push boundaries that resulted in timeless classics that were so far ahead of their time. They are still amazing today as his choreography was not dependent on the ballerina's skills, the plot, or the sets, but on pure dance; and that dance will never loose its charm. This season, Carolina Ballet will introduce us to a new selection from his ground-breaking choreography. This will be a fantastic show for sure as we can get the taste of work of this great man.

Tolstoy and Shakespeare: Masterworks in Motion:
When it comes to story ballets, Carolina Ballet is second to none. In its latest offering, the Ballet presents two literary greats, Shakespeare and Tolstoy. One of the offerings is titled Tempest Fantasy that reflects The Tempest through the prism of Paul Moravec's 2004 Pulitzer Prize-winning music.

The other one is Kreutzer Sonata that explores Tolstoy's domestic fable using music of Beethoven and Janacek tied together by commissioned music of North Carolina's own premier composer J. Mark Scearce. With live accompaniment by the Ciompi Quartet in both the shows, you can be assured of an evening filled with passion and drama.

Bernstein and Robbins: American Music and Dance:
