The musical - Burn the Floor is essentially a romp through a world of dance varieties. It had its world-wide premiere in 1999 in Bournemouth, England. The presentation was viewed by millions of dance fanatics and thousands of regular TV viewers in over 20 countries. It featured the tango, the Viennese waltz, swing, salsa, the Charleston, along with many other dance forms. The two vocalists presenting varied styles of dance gathered much appreciation. The world-wide premiere of Burn The Floor was presented against the backdrop of Latin music and pop hits. But, suffice it to say that the event was at par with American songbook standards.
The musical set a genuine buzz for itself in the Ballroom and Latin dance environment. Dancers, choreographers, costume designers, marketing personnel and many more made the world premiere show of Burn The Floor a super-special event with innovative ideas and never-ending excitement. However, Jason Gilkison and Peta Roby are the two names that appeared on the mainstream. Gilkison is Burn The Floor's director and choreographer whereas Peta Roby takes care of production department as an associate producer.
With their tireless efforts and creative potential, both Gilkison and Roby took the musical of Burn The Floor to the new heights of success. They turned the musical into a Broadway and opened in the West End of London in 2005. The presentation became a massive HIT in no time, receiving critical acclaim from critics and theater-lovers. But, noteworthy is the fact that the Broadway run of Burn The Floor was amazingly more appreciated in Japan than anywhere else. Later on, upon realizing the demands of people, a few significant additions were made.
Over the years, the fine work of performers presented in Burn The Floor have been acknowledged by critics as the energy-packed show, slick and sexy piece of entertainment and a bridge where Vegas meets the Oscars.
Today, Burn The Floor is characterized as a Latin and Ballroom dance spectacular that sizzles. With a sexy 21st century edge, the show features 10 couples that perform every dance. These dance styles primarily include samba, cha cha, rumba, waltz, paso doble, Viennese, jive, quick step and foxtrot. However, it also radiates an electrifying flavor of such variation as the lindy and swing dancing.
