Boom
Boom is a platform for artists from all over the world joining, meeting and creating collaboratively. It is a biennial festival that occurs every two years in Portugal and features music, paint, sculpture, video art, installations cinema, theater and a concept of crosspollination of different art forms.

Boom History
The first Boom Festival happened in 1997 with a large influence on electronic music. It was a gathering of three days for the trance tribe in a country that was giving its first steps in this scene. People from the entire world transformed a Mediterranean forest in a micro-Goa environment - which was one of the main goals.

One year later Boom gave 5,000 people one of their best experiences. Two years Boom got a reputation of a top psy-trance festival, known by a fantastic mood and held in an easygoing corner of Europe.

Boom pushed the boundaries in 2000. Together with psy-trance in Boom 2000 there was a convention area and an eclectic music area.

With such a wide approach Boom faced two more editions: 2002, 2004 and 2006. Every year the concept has been evolving from the main base: connecting arts, culture and knowledge.

Boom - 2008
Taking off as a psy-trance event, Boom is now a visionary entertainment happening where people can have fun but also get values and awareness with it Fine arts, street art, interactive paint, there's a wide array of arts that use colours and forms as a main medium of expression.

Motto
The motto for Boom - 2008 is to recreate symbologies from cultures that have been using the powers of symbols in order to provide a wider knowledge of realities by using ancestral symbols with a distinct input of cutting edge.

Principles
As opposed to what is current on this kind of festivals, Boom festival does not rely on any commercial sponsor.The objective is not only to keep the precinct free of any visual pollution as well as defend the public against any marketing strategy, although this is generally considered a good strategy some think that this should be compromised in order to ease the ticket prices.

Facilities at Boom
Boom has different facilities and joyful areas where the festival participants live, rest, meet up and party. The access to most of them is totally free.

Parking
The parking has a bigger space and is free of charge as usual. Toilets and showers will be located all over the parking area. The visitors are advised to bring bicycles as the car park is somewhat away from the main action.

Cyber Cafe
This is an open air cyber cafe with free wireless: you can be in Boom and in cyberspace at the same time!

Baby Boom
A special designed zone built for kids with specialized caretakers. Educators and monitors, shows and a playground, the Baby Boom is made for parents who want to leave their child in good hands.

Camping
The camping area is free. The camping areas of Boom are huge. For reasons of fire safety inflammable components are totally banned.

Paramedics
Paramedics are easy to recognise in their blue vests and they are responsible , amongst other things, to approach and take action on people who require first-aid treatments.

Health Services
The health and fire departments have their own staff present at the health services during the days of the festival.

Healing Area
This is a new area solely devoted to healing where many tools are available to assist in gaining balance and harmony within the self and to inspire a more natural way of life.

Security
The security section of Boom is centralized at the security office which functions as the hub to solve problems across the venue.

Biological treatment of waste waters
Water, after use in the showers and sinks passes through a series of wet garden beds where it is allowed to evaporate while the roots of aquatic plants clean the water

Recreations
Music Sound-wise, the main novelty in Boom is a new music area. It is a space where one can be in touch with the finest and latest in music.Groovy Beach is the new main area of Boom with a huge emphasis on the latest music breakthroughs.

Dance Floor is guided by the spirals of psy-trance. It is a meeting point for all its sub-genres like full-on, dark, progressive, psychedelic, acoustic, techy or tribal to name just a few. An acoustical expansion area for all the expert ears and adventurous minds.

Ambient Forest is a place for freestyle music, where mid and downtempo rhythms get together with no boundaries. Reggae, dub, ambient, ethno-ambient, fusion, a delicious myriad of novelty music for your senses to connect.

Sacred Fire is focusing in World music. Here you can travel across the World through sound. Listen to the rhythms of Africa, the melodies of Asia, the joyful sounds of Latin America, all spiced up by an intense flavour of acoustic music. Ancestral music meets modern music in an organic environment.

Flea Market
Stalls from all over the world, handicraft, and beautifully designed pieces - the Flea Market area is always a must go in Boom!

Liminal Village
It is said to be the Boom's cultural hub. Visionary culture is showcased by presentations, lectures, workshops and art works.

Theatroom
A stage where one can see shows based on performative arts, theatre and a special emphasis on avant-garde projects.

Restaurants
At the restaurants food from all over the world and all types of meals will be available. There will be a communal area for people to eat and drink while listening to concerts.
