Bare, known fully as Bare: The Rock Opera is an American rock musical with music by Damon Intrabartolo and lyrics by Jon Hartmere Jr. Its book is written by Damon Intrabartolo and Jon Hartmere. It is one of the best rock musicals today in America and it has seen many productions and hundreds of performances. For those fond of musicals, this is one that can definitely not be missed and is easily seen live through Bare tickets if grabbed quickly. It surrounds two high school students studying at a Catholic boarding school and their struggle with their romantic lives, considered a taboo.
Bare was premiered first in Los Angeles at the Hudson Theatre where it ran from 2000 to 2001. In 2004, it debuted on Off Broadway at the American Theatre of Actors where its performances took place for over a month. Both of these productions were directed by Krisin Hanggi. Following this, the musical was performed at The Country Playhouse by Black Box Productions in 2008 with director O'Dell Hutchison and musical director like Kirkwood at the reins. The same year, it saw productions in the cities of Sacramento, Houston and Seattle.
In 2009, Bare premiered for Canadian audiences at Toronto's Hart House Theatre and was performed by WatersEdge Productions Inc. The same year, productions were held in the city of Amherst, Massachusetts and the city of Denver. Internationally, it premiered in the Philippines where it was performed by students of the Ateneo de Manila University.
In 2010, this rock musical premiered in Sydney, Australia and was performed as part of the famous Sydney Fringe Festival at the New Theatre. The same year, productions took place in Rochester, New York and Ypsilanti, Michigan in the US.
In 2011, Black Box Theatre, known also as The Complex Performing Arts Center, played host to yet another production of Bare. The same year, it took place as part of the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival and was performed by Raw Mango Productions and performing art graduates of the MacEwan University. Productions were also staged in Minneapolis, St. Louis, Lansing, Kalispell, Putnam, and Kingston in New York, Detroit and Windsor in Canada.
In 2012, Bare was performed by the Blue Repertory, who had produced the earlier 2009 production of the musical in the Philippines, at the various locations including Teatrino, Greenhills Shopping Center, Promenade and San Juan in Metro Manila. In the UK, NUEmusic Theatre in York conducted several performances of the play which were held in the York St John University's south hall chapel, converted into a theatre. In Winnipeg, Canada, performances of the play took place as part of the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival and were organized by The Musical Theatre Company.
With more productions of Bare, known also as Bare: The Rock Opera, slated for 2012, anyone looking towards getting a look at it live can do so not only in many venues in the US but also in the UK, Canada and even in the Philippines where the musical is set to tour many venues.
