The Supercopa, also famously known as Supercopa de Espana (Traslated as Spanish Supercup), is a Spanish Football Championship. The championship is a game between the champions of the Copa del Rey and La Liga. This game series is comparable to the famous English Football Association Community Shield in which the victors of the popular Premier League as well as The Football Association Cup come together in a fantastic event such as this to compete for the trophy.
The championship that takes place in present times began in 1982. However during the years of 1940 and 1953, many different championships took place between the cup winners (at that time it was Copa del Generalisimo) and the champions of the Spanish league. In 1940, the name of this tournament was known as Copa de Campeones. After the championship of 1940, the Supercopa did not take place. However, in 1945, the championship was held again when the Argentinean Ambassador, because of great friendly relations with the military government of Spain, offered a trophy to the tournament which was known as the Copa de Oro Argentina.
The year of 1947 saw the Copa Eva Duarte de Peron being formed as a yearly sporting event. This was done so as a accolade to the President of Argentina and his publicly famous wife named Evita. These tournaments took place during the months of September as well as in December. The event was commonly a one-match final.
The Supercopa introduced its latest version of a two-legged game. This took place on the 14th of August and the 17th of August in 2011. The championship saw the magnanimous football team of Real Madrid who were the winners of the Copa del Rey 2010-2011 and between FC Barcelona football team who were the La Liga winners of 2010-2011. In the championship, FC Barcelona won the cup on the aggregate of 5-4. So far the top scorer of the championship is famous Lionel Messi who has scored a total of eight goals in the tournament.
