This exhibition hockey tournament is held every year and is a series of six games played between a team of junior players from Russia and three all stars teams from the Canadian Hockey League. Super Series Game tickets entitle you to watch some exciting and extremely competitive hockey as the Russian Selects play two games each against the Western Hockey League (WHL) all stars, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) all stars and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) all stars.
The Super Series Game was launched in 2003 as part of preparations for the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. That year it was called the Re/Max Canada-Russia Challenge. Over the next four years it was played as the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge and since 2009 it has been named the Subway Super Series.
The Canadian Hockey league won the inaugural series 5-1. In 2004, the Russian Selects started well winning the first two games against the QMJHL but lost the remaining four, the Canadian Hockey League winning the series 4-2. The next two series were totally one sided as the Russian Selects were totally outplayed by the Canadians who swept both series 6-0. The 2007 Super Series was very close as the Russian Selects defeated the QMJHL in the first game and then beat WHL in the fifth game of the series. The Canadian Hockey League ended up winning the series 4-2.
The Canadian hockey League won the next two series 5-1 and 6-0. The 2010 Subway Super Series saw the Russians winning the series for the first time ever four games to two, defeating the QMJHL and the WHL in both games each and losing only to the OHL. In 2011 the Russians defeated the QMJHL in the first two games and beat the WHL in the final game of the series. The series ended up as a 3-3 tie but the CHL won the series on points basis.
The Canadian Hockey League leads the overall series 41-9. The Ontario Hockey League remains the only undefeated team in the history of the Super Series having won all their eighteen games against the Russians. The Western Hockey League has a 14-3 record and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League stands at 9-6 against the Russians.
These games mean a great deal to the participant teams and the CHL. No wonder, all potential and chosen teams feel honored to host these games. The duo of QMJHL's Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and the Val-d'Or Foreurs will play host to this year's first four games of the Super Series event. The final Super Series games have been given to the duo of WHL's Victoria Royals and the Vancouver Giants who will cater events Game 5 and Game 6 respectively.
