Before the regular season of the Major League Baseball sets in, fans are treated with an appetizer of the sport in form of Spring Training games. As the name suggests, Spring Training is held during the spring season, essentially starting from the mid of Feb and continuing all the way up till the first week of April. Spring training not only provides the players with an opportunity to dust off their skills for the old players, in fact it also provides with a platform for the newer players to show their skills off.

Presently all the Major League Baseball teams are divided up in to two leagues, Cactus League and Grapefruit league. Cactus league came into existence around 1946 when Cleveland Indians started training in Tucson and Giants were invited to train in Phoenix. As of the moment all the MLB teams either train in Florida or in Arizona, but in earlier times it wasn’t like that. Sometimes these games were also held at Dominican Republic, Cuba, Hawaii and Mexico. In present day scenario, the teams either train in the state of Florida or in Arizona. Those who train in Arizona are called Cactus League, while those in Florida are called Grapefruit League. The history of the team can be traced back to 1894 when it was founded Kansas City Blues in the city of Kansas. Back in those days, the team played in Western league but later it became a part of American League after relocating to Washington D.C in 1901. After the move, the team was then renamed to Washington Senators/Nationals.

 

After their formation, during team’s early years, Twins struggled with their performances, and were usually considered to be a mediocre team overall. But later over the span of time, Twins started to emerge as one of the successful teams of 1920s and 1930s. The team was renamed to Minnesota Twins after when it was moved to the city of Minneapolis in 1960. Soon after the move, success followed in shortly.
