The Seattle Storm is a professional female basketball team based in Seattle. The team plays in the Western Conference as part of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). It is co-owned by three women namely Dawn Trudeau, Ginny Gilder and Lisa Brummel under the name ‘Force 19 Hoops LLC’. Initially called Seattle Reign, from 1996 to 1998, the team was a part of the American Basketball League (ABL). They finished the season as WNBA champions by 20-14 which was the best record by the franchise at the time. The victory came as a first for a female head coach in the history of WNBA. Four years later in 2008, Brian Agler took to the role of coaching the former basketball champions. Storm gave a brilliant performance setting an overall franchise best record of 22-12. Apart from this, it made another record with the score 16-1, the best by a home team in WNBA. .
2010 season stands as the most glorious in the history of Seattle Storm. Their performance included a record-tying twenty eight wins in the regular season with a perfect 17-0 score at Key Arena. This again was a record of the maximum wins by a home team in WNBA history. A number of Storm members were honored with many prestigious awards and accolades during this phase. Agler was named the Coach of the Year while Lauren Jackson the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Weeks and Western Conference Player of the Month, five and three times respectively. Apart from winning these titles, Jackson also went on to be named the third time WNBA MVP. In 2010, Storm compensated for its previous five seasons’ average performance. They swept the playoffs, won the conference finals as well as the WNBA finals, becoming the second time champions of WNBA. Seattle Storm also received a formal invitation to the While House by the then US President, Barack Obama. The President praised the community service efforts of the team.
The Seattle Storm uniform colors are green, red, white and gold. Its mascot is ‘Doppler’, a cartoon character on a scooter wearing the Seattle Storm t-shirt. The basketball team’s logo is in a cloud like shape with the words Seattle Storm and a ball inside. It comprises of the colors green, white, red and gold.
