The home ground of the team is soccer specific stadium "Toyota Field." With an initial capacity of 8,000 spectators, the stadium is expandable to accommodate around eighteen thousand fans. The stadium is located across the street from Morgan's Wonderland and South Texas Regional Soccer Complex and was opened in April 2013. The Scorpions will play their home games at their new stadium starting 2013.
The official name of the team was revealed in 2011. The Scorpions made their NASL debut in 2012 with a match against Atlanta Silverbacks which ended in a draw when both teams could not score any goal. The team scored their first goal against Fort Lauderdale Strikers with Pablo Campos and Hans Denissen scoring one goal each. The Scorpions also played at the Blossom Soccer Stadium that has a capacity of more than ten thousand spectators as their alternate playing site. The San Antonio Scorpions played their 2012 season at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio Texas while waiting for their home field to be constructed completely.
Current roster includes players from diverse backgrounds including Midfielder Javier Saavedra from Mexico, Defender Luka Vucko from Croatia, Defender Stephen deRoux from Jamaica, Midfielder Walter Ramirez from Honduras, Forward Nikola Vasilic from Serbia while notable former players include Jeff Cunningham, Pablo Campos, Ryan Cochrane and Josue Soto. Current coach of the team is Tim Hankinson.
The Scorpions have garnered fame and a significant fan following. The largest organized supporters of the club are a group called the "Crocketteers." The group was formed in 2009 with an aim to unite soccer fans in San Antonio and help consolidate the fan base behind the new team. The group has more than 1000 registered members. The Bexar County Casuals Football Firm also supports the Scorpions. Other supporter groups are The Dragoons 78 and The Alamo City Ultras.
