Richmond Braves
The Richmond Braves is a famous AAA minor league baseball team of the Atlanta Braves and it is also a part of the International League. Usually it is referred to as R-Braves, as they are based in Richmond of Virginia.
They have been playing in the place from 1966; it was the time when the Milwaukee Braves had been moved to Atlanta. The Braves usually play their home games at a stadium called The Diamond. The place is also shared by Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team.
The Diamond is located on Boulevard and features a sculpture of a gigantic Native American brave. The present stadium was established in 1985 although it had been used for minor league baseball since 1954. The former stadium was called Parker Field.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on January 14, 2008 that the Richmond Braves may relocate to Gwinnett County, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, in the next year.
The Gwinnett Braves will play in a new ballpark, there is a campaign run on the internet in the hope that Atlanta officials, may be convinced about Richmond would rally to support the Braves.
The group also has aspirations as to produce enough support in order to make the Braves rethink their plans for moving to Gwinnett.
The next relocation by the franchise would end up the history of 43 years of affiliation and ownership of the R-Braves. There is a continuous dialogue between the MLB club and Richmond authorities over the issue of building a new stadium.
There was also a proposal to start a project in 2004, and it was proposed to build a new stadium for the Braves in the Shockoe Bottom district of downtown Richmond. There was a tropical storm called Gaston destroyed Shockoe Bottom, and the proposal lost some of the major support, but there are some of the city leaders, still promoting the construction.
It is also an issue that the IL will not transfer any existing franchise, to replace the Braves. There is a report that Richmond will remain represented in minor league baseball as a member of a lower-classification circuit.
The new manager named Dave Brundage is the 26th manager in Richmond's franchise history. He has joining the Braves in the year of 2007. His presence has improved the IL playoffs and the team has won the Governors' Cup championship.
It is up to the credit of Brundage that seven of the 10 teams skippered him, have advanced to the post-season.The Richmond Braves have a close connection with the local youth organizations, they are determined to provide tickets to underprivileged children in the area and they need the help of the community in this regard.
It is assured by the team that all tickets donated to the Braves Buddies Ticket Donation Program would be given to worthy youth organizations in the Richmond area.
