Reading Phillies
The Reading Phillies is a name of an Eastern League team, which is based in the town of Reading in Pennsylvania. They have played in the South Division of the Eastern League from the year of 1967, and they are considered as the AA affiliates of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The affiliation with the Phillies has been remarkable and continuous since 1967. The Phillies play in First Energy Stadium, which was earlier known as Reading Municipal Memorial Stadium.
It was built in 1951, with the seating capacity of 9,000 fans. The stadium had celebrated their ten-millionth fan to attend a game on July 3rd, 2007.
The R-Phils has the honor of winning the Eastern League championship in 1968, 1973, and 1995, and were co-champions in 2001.
if we look at the history of professional baseball in the town of Reading', then the first official baseball team, the Reading Athletic Club was formed in November 1858 and for the next 15 years, it had played other local teams for unofficial championships and bragging rights.
There was a National Agreement in 1883, which had organized major and minor leagues, the Reading Actives had a chance to become a member of the Interstate Association. The Actives went 33-35 in 1883 against teams from Brooklyn, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Trenton, New Jersey, Wilmington, Delaware, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and Camden, New Jersey.
They had finished in third place before the league folded after the season.
The Reading Coal Heavers had later played in the Atlantic League from till the mid of 1900. It was the time, when the world's first female professional baseball player, Lizzie Arlington had pitched the final inning of a game for the Coal Heavers.
Baseball had returned to the town of Reading in 1907 when the York White Roses of the Class-B Tri-State League relocated and became the Reading Pretzels.
In 1911, the Pretzels finished with the best record in the league, but lost a best-of-seven postseason series to the team from Trenton.
Reading had got a chance to become the ?Class-A' affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in the New York-Penn League in the year of 1933. The Reading Red Sox had a successful two-year run before the affiliation ended.
After five years, Reading had got another baseball franchise, which was an unaffiliated team in the Class-B Interstate League called the Reading Chicks.
The Reading Phillies also offer affordable entertainment for a whole family, right from early April through August at First Energy Stadium.

Reading had won the John H. Johnson President's Trophy in 2003. The Johnson Trophy is the top honor bestowed upon the complete franchise by Minor League Baseball.
