My daughter unexpectedly came to New York to visit us on Sunday. We already had plans to see the Wicked at 2:00 PM and I was sure that I wouldn't be able to get a ticket for her that quickly. We called Ticket Luck and what do you know? They arranged for tickets on a one day notice. Unbelievable service!"

Olympics Softball Tickets Information

Olympics Softball
Softball is an old game, which started in Chicago on Thanksgiving Day, 1887. It was invented by a group of twenty young men, who were gathered at Farragut Boat Club, to hear the outcome of the Harvard-Yale football game. George Hancock being the member of the group threw the boxing glove towards a fellow and said to play a game.

He tied the boxing glove so that it resembled a ball, chalked out a diamond on the floor, and he also broke off a broom handle to serve as a bat. The same game after 111 years later is known as the first softball game. If he had not created an oversized ball and an undersized rubber-tipped bat and made the basic rules for the game, then it is quite possible, the game had never been flourished. It got an instant popularity among the sports lovers.

It was in 1933, that the first amateur softball tournament took place in Chicago, Illinois. After twenty years fast-pitching was introduced. Until then people used slow-pitch to give the batter a better chance to hit the ball. In 1933 the ASA (amateur softball association) founded the game to give rules and govern the sport. The association is still governing the softball sport the US, even at the present times.

Both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball tournaments are held for men and women. The winners of the tournaments and the championship team of the previous year met in the national championship tournaments. The first woman softball championships were played in 1966. At present it is known to everyone that softball is now very popular among women, particular at the youth and college levels. More than 600 National Collegiate Association (NCAA) member institution sponsor women softball teams, and national championship tournament for women are help for three collegiate divisions.

In 1991 women fast-pitch softball was selected as an event and the US Olympics. It took three long years to find the right players for the USA team. Over several months a selected few got their way into an elite list of finalists. The final 67 met in Oklahoma City over Labor Day weekend as a seven member national selection committee judged their every play! In the end only 15 players would go to the Olympic Games and the rest would go home.

It was on September 4, 1995 that the USA Team was introduced at a press conference in Oklahoma City. It was a dream of the fifteen of the girls being selected in the team. They kept on practicing for the next four months together in Columbus, GA, they were in fact preparing for the Olympic Games.

It was in 1934, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) was formed. It was decided to call it by only one name, but more important to form specific standardized rules. It was a practice that the game was played with different rules and field dimensions, prior to that. The Amateur Softball Association remains softball's governing body for both women and men's leagues. Softball teams can play anywhere in the country and know that the rules are the same. At present, softball is basically considered to be a game of girls and women, with most of the interest being in fast pitch.

It was in 1996 that the game was included in the Olympic sports. But it is really sad to tell that the International Olympic Committee has voted to no longer include softball, beginning in 2008. There is a petition to have this changed so that by the 2012 Olympics.
