Joining the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, the team went onto playing in multiple conferences such as the Big West Conference and the Western Athletic Conference. Currently a part of the Division I Mountain West Conference, the Rebels are confident about winning the upcoming game. 

The team that will be competing with UNLV Rebels is Northern Illinois Huskies. The Huskies is the name of all the sports teams that represent the Northern Illinois University. Supporting a total of 7 men's teams and 10 women's teams, the official colors worn by the players are black and cardinal. Formed in 1899, the Huskies' football team joined the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and played its debut game against DeKalb High School. Staying an independent collegiate team from 1996-97 and 1986-92, the Huskies then joined conferences including the Big West and the Mid-American. It is currently a part of the MAC, playing at Division I level. Coached by Rod Carey, Northern Illinois Huskies has bagged 1 National title, 8 Division wins and 2 Consensus All-Americans.

Over the years, the Huskies has produced several National Football League players. The current NFL players include Doug Free of Dallas Cowboys, Larry English of San Diego Chargers, Rashaan Melvin of Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Sean Progar of New York Jets.
