The team played in Newark as a member of the International League from 1926 onwards to 1949 with its home stadium being the Ruppert Stadium that is today part of the Ironbound. The present team was founded by Rick Cerone, former catcher for the New York Yankees and also a native of Newark. At its founding, the team played its home games in The Ballpark at Harbor Yard located in Bridgeport, Connecticut and also at the Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey. Their current home park was created in 1999.
