Navy Midshipmen

Sports are an important part of the American heritage. Midshipmen teams include the men's basketball team that has played in the NCAA tournament a total of 11 times and have reached the Elite Eight twice. They have also won the Eastern College Athletic Conference a total of six times since their first win in 1985. The Navy Midshipmen men's rowing crew has won a total of thirty intercollegiate championships and has been runner up twenty-nine times. The crew has also won a number of Olympic medals in their prolific run.

The Navy Midshipmen football team has beat the Army three times in a row in the last three years while they have won the national championship once. Their matches with the Army constantly feature massive crowds and are an important achievement for the Naval Academy. Members of any team that beats the Army in any sport receives a special badge on their naval jacket and is much revered in the Naval Academy. The Navy Midshipmen also field both men's and women's teams in golf, squash, baseball, track and field, lacrosse, fencing, wrestling, boxing, hockey, rugby, softball, cycling, karate, croquet and water polo.

Navy Midshipmen is the name collectively given to all the sports teams sponsored by United States Naval Academy.
