In winter 2000, the team had its first major win. Morelia beat Club Toluca in a series of penalty shoots that decided the match. Monarcas Morelia's victory meant so much to the fans that the day after the team lifted the cup, a crowd of around 100 thousand people welcomed the team. The crowd paraded the team through Morelias' main avenue, Avenida Madero. Later on, they reached their Morelia stadium. Here, the crowd congregated, as the team raised the cup before all its fans.
