Intercollegiate football teams of South Dakota State Jackrabbits and Missouri Tigers will be playing this year at the latter's home stadium, Faurot Field. The Jackrabbits participate from the Football Championship Subdivision, previously recognized as Division I-AA, which competes in Missouri Valley Football Conference. They were formerly a member of NCC's Division II till 2004. In 2007, the Jackrabbits were accepted to the MVFC and played their inaugural game in the league in the 2008 season. The Tigers football team participates in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision and since 2012, has also been competing in the Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division. It is currently under the coaching of Gary Pinkel, the talented coach who shares the same ranking as Don Faurot. The latter is the all-time winning coach at Missouri with more than a hundred games won. The Jackrabbits played their first season in 1900. They currently play their home games at the Coughlin-Alumni Stadium that has a seating capacity of fifteen thousand. The team has played many memorable games in the stadium since 1962, which is when they first moved there. The Jackrabbits hold fourteen NCC Championships, alongside one championship of the Great West Football Conference, which was won in 2007.
Thirty-three players from the team have made it to the NFL Clubs such as Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts, among others. Of the thirty-three NFL Jackrabbits, seven are currently playing in the NFL including Casey Knips, Dale Moss, Colin Cochart, Casey Bender, Danny Batten, Mitch Erickson and Adam Vinatieri. Former NFL player, Jim Langer who was also a Jackrabbit, has been welcomed to NFL Hall of Fame.
The Tigers football program was first established in 1890 and has since appeared in twenty-nine bowl games including nine major bowls. Among these bowl appearances are four Orange Bowls, two Sugar Bowls, one Fiesta Bowl, and two Cotton Bowls. The Tigers have won two nationals championships and fifteen conference titles, among which the former championships are recognized by the NCAA. The Tigers are set to compete in the Cotton Bowl Classic of 2014, after which they will have a bowl total of thirty games. Individual awards won by the Tigers include Amos Alonzo Stagg, Mosi Tatupu, John Mackey and Walter Camp Coach for the Year awards. The team has seen many of its players enter the NFL clubs. At present, more than twenty Tigers are playing in the NFL, including Colin Brown, Chase Daniel, and Ziggy Hood, among several more.
