The Mavericks have the Blakeslee Stadium that is home to their football team and the Taylor Center where the Mavericks play their basketball games along with volleyball and wrestling. The Taylor center opened in 2000 and has seen many memorable games played on its venue.
Over the years, the university has produced many talented players who have made major contributions in different sports categories. The men’s basketball team has the proud achievement of having their player Atila Santos shine when he was named an All-American by the NABC and the Division II Bulletin for the year 2012. Their women’s basketball team also does not lag behind for its achievement. It is the proud winner of Minnesota State NCAA Division II, national women's basketball championship for the season the 2008-09.
When it comes to ice hockey, the Mavericks are known for their great play and talented players. They play under the leadership of Mike Hastings who is the serving head coach and the third coach of the team. Troy Jutting remained with the team since 2000 till 2012 and has taken the team to some major wins. For his remarkable performance Jutting was termed as the WCHA Coach of the Year two times, for the year 2003 and 2008. Before him, Don Brose served as the coach of the team who assumed the head coaching responsibilities for three long decades from 1970 to 2007.
Minnesota State Mankato has produced some fine players over the course of time and some of the big names who later played in NHL are Ryan Carter, Steve Wagner ,David Backes, Tim Jackman, Grant Stevenson and Jon Kalinski. Ryan Carter a former Maverick made the university proud when his name was engraved into the Stanley Cup and David Backes also went on to achieve the silver medal in the 20102 Olympics representing the men’s US Olympics team.
