History of baseball in Lancaster, draws back from the late 1860's when baseball made its entrance in the county as the war veterans who knew the rules of baseball, returned to their homeland of Lancaster.
This gave the spark to the spirit of baseball among the local's, hence in 1884 two teams were formed in Lancaster, one with the name of Lancaster Lancasters while the other one being Lancaster Ironsides. The former one played for the Keystone Association, meanwhile the latter one played for the Eastern League. By the end of 1884, Lancasters became the only remaining team in Lancaster to continue playing in the following season.
Later a new team was formed to represent Lancaster named Lancaster Chicks, which played for the Keystone Assocciation for the 1894 ? 1895 season. The formation of Chicks was followed by the formation of another baseball team named Lancaster Giants, which was formed in 1887.
