Virginia is the birth place of Jimmy Lange, Virginia’s very own boxing hero for the modern day. Impressed with the amount of dedication, training and discipline the sport requires, Jimmy took an avid interest in the sport and its noble tradition, deciding to make it his own claim to fame and respect. His father has taken up the mantle as his manager since then. In his thirties now, born in 1975 in Washington, he has already earned respect and standing in the boxing arena and is fast becoming a well known name amongst fans of the sport as well is the circuits and competitions. To watch Jimmy in the rink is like watching the golden age of boxing once again, many observers have said. During his ten year profession career, these positive facets of his personality have ensured his popularity and his status as a constant contender in the sport. His old trainer, James “Buddy” McGrit has commented on Jimmy’s personality and style, commending him not only as a good sportsman but also an overall great person. His present trainer is none other than Don Turner, whose other pupils include legends like Evander Hollyfield and Larry Holmes. His prowess and abilities earned him a spot in the first season of NBC’s program, The Contender, which was hosted by legends Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard. He caught the attention of the producers when he scored great marks at the national stage on September 16, 2003 with an amazing and fan-garnering third-round TKO of former WBF light heavyweight champion Homer Gibbins live on ESPN2’s Tuesday Night Fights. This was the turning point in his career and thrust him into boxing limelight, making him a known name in the sport and also establishing his reputation as a worthy and formidable opponent.Slyvester Stallone’s brother happened to attend one of Jimmy’s matches in DC and was so exceedingly impressed with the young man and his performance that he recommended him for The Contender as one of the 16 boxers that were to be on the show that first season. He lost his first fight on the show though, which was against Joey Gilbert after Anthony Bonsante, who was to be his original opponent, refused to fight him, possibly thinking of Jimmy as a great threat. Jimmy was called back on the show as a fan favorite to fight against Tarick Salmaci, which he won.Jimmy went on to became the WBE Junior Middleweight title holder after he beat  local opponent Perry Ballard in an impressive 4th round. Since then, he has fought a rematch with Joey Gilbert, Tommy Wilt, Fontaine Cabell, all at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. The Cabell-Lange match ended in a draw after 12 rounds and a rematch was scheduled in 2007 on 12th of May. Jimmy won the hard battle in the eighth round TKO, earning the WBC Continental Americas Super Welterweight title. After recovering from a shoulder surgery, Jimmy returned to the ring on 1st November 2008, again at the Patriot Center, to face his former Contender teammate Jonathan Reid. He went into a winning streak with two consecutive wins against Jimmy LeBlanc (July 10, 2010 at Patriot Center) and Mike McFail (August 20, 2010 in Greensboro, NC).Jimmy Lange is now a true contender, a fighter of great acclaim and a treat to watch.
