North American Soccer League was established on November 10, 2009 to bring raw and exciting soccer action to the supporters of the sport. Formed as a Division II league below Major League Soccer, NASL currently comprises ten teams with an addition of more teams expected in coming years. Even though NASL is not affiliated with original soccer league of the same name which operated from 1968 to 1981, it is still named after it. The league had its inaugural season in 2011 and currently operates in split season format - Spring Season and Fall Season. By the end of both halves of the season, two teams with best combined records and two champions of spring and fall season square off in a four-team playoff tournament called the Championship. The Championship is a single elimination contest after which the winner of the final takes home the Soccer Bowl.
With 20 points in total, Minnesota United FC dominated the 2014 spring season with NY Cosmos as the runner ups. Minnesota United FC was formed back in 2010 and joined the league as one of its eight founding members. Minnesota plays its home games at the National Sports Center under the head coach Manny Lagos. Ever since the 2011 NASL season, Minnesota United has kept a rivalry with FC Edmonton that is billed as the Flyover Cup. Minnesota claimed its very first NASL Championship back in 2011 and made yet another appearance in the finals in the following year. Unfortunately, they fell short to Tampa Bay Rowdies. After finishing first in 2014 spring season, Minnesota might just pick its second NASL Championship this year.
Indy Eleven on the other hand joined NASL on April, 2014 after being established in 2013. The 2014 spring season marked its inaugural season in the league, in which the team failed to claim any victory. Indy Eleven struggled in its inaugural season like most of the newly expanded franchises, and has promising future in the coming years. Indy Eleven will be squaring off with Minnesota United during 2014 fall season and fans of both sides shouldn't miss any of the upcoming games.
